Dubai Parks and Resorts

Dubai Parks and Resorts is one of Dubai’s latest and greatest additions to its theme park roster and offers some of the best attractions and rides in the whole country and, possibly, the Middle East.

Dubai Parks and Resorts currently stands as the Middle East’s largest integrated leisure and theme park destination.  Located along Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai, it covers an area of around 25 million square ft and has over 100 rides, attractions and things to do.

DPR officially opened its doors on the 18th of December, 2016, and is now running smoothly 7 days a week.  Dubai Parks and Resorts is comprised of Riverlands Dubai, a themed dining and retail area; Bollywood Parks, a Bollywood themed zone; Motiongate Dubai, a huge theme park based around many Hollywood film studios and their respective films; LEGOLAND Dubai, based on the favourite toy preferred by kids around the world and, of course, LEGOLAND Waterpark which is an aquatic take on the typical LEGOLAND style.

The Dubai Parks and Resorts project was only released to the public in 2012 and began construction in 2014, only 2 short years later and the doors were ready to be opened to the general public.

In 2014, during construction, a contract was signed with DreamWorks Animation, Columbia Pictures, Merlin Entertainments and a selection of the biggest studios in Bollywood.

A year later, in 2015, Lionsgate was added in to the fold and the groundwork for Motiongate was set.

Timeline of Events

In 2012, Dubai Parks and Resorts was officially announced by the Ruler of Dubai, vice President of the United Arab Emirates and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

In 2014, contracts were created with Bollywood movie studios, DreamWorks Animation and Columbia Pictures.  Merlin Entertainment are also brought in for LEGOLAND.

In 2015, Lionsgate was added in to the mix and was set to be the fifth and final zone to be present at Motiongate.

In 2016, Six Flags Dubai is announced and set to be opened in 2019.  Meanwhile, LEGOLAND Dubai, Bollywood Parks and Motiongate open to the public in October, November and December of 2016.

In 2017, a year later, LEGOLAND Water Park opened its gates and began operating.

In the future, it’s hoped that Six Flags Dubai will be ready to be opened in in the latter part of 2019 and a recent announcement indicates a LEGOLAND themed hotel will be joining DPR, as well.
